Dashboard 3: Reseller Analysis

Main insights & recommendations

1. Bikes as a product category contribute to over 80% of total sale, but generate the least profits. The road bike product line has been consistently underperforming every year with negative profit margins, whereas the mountain bike shines as the best performing line.

Recommendations:

- Conduct market research to understand demand for road bike, consider raising retail price for this product line to improve margins, or discontinue production to save resources

- Allocate resources to amp up mountain bike productions to meet future demand

- Develop sales strategies for clothing product line to diversify source of income

2. Specialty bike shops as a reseller have the smallest sales contribution and lowest margin, whereas warehouses contribute the most to revenue but yield large profit losses. Most of these losses come from sales of unprofitable models of road bikes, frames & clothing.

Recommendations:

- Introduce bundles of more profitable product & hard-to-sell products at warehouses

- Forecast demand of resellers to negotiate prices and sales volume

- Consider ceasing product distribution through speciality bike shops

- Conduct research on new resellers and potential of direct-to-consumer channels
